REVIEW: Does 'Divergent' Have Legs?

Anti-fascist (sort of) and pro-girl (definitely), “Divergent’ – the first in the trilogy-to-be based on the Veronica Roth novels -- is meant to position Shailene Woodley as the next in the Jennifer Lawrence/Emma Watson/Lily Collins line of YA-inspired warrior princesses. But Woodley plays another kind of anti-super-heroine, one possessed of reluctance and doubt, as well as canniness, cunning and (BTW) great hair. The question is whether her movie has legs. It goes wide Friday, March 21.

Was Jennifer Lawrence Too Young to Play Rosalyn in 'American Hustle'?

Age is just a number. But what if that number is 23 and you're Jennifer Lawrence, whose Golden Globe winning role in "American Hustle" some critics have said is too mature for her age?

Typical for early January, a new horror film marked the first new wide release of the year. And like the last two years, it started out in first place. But it weekend matinees look poised to return Disney's "Frozen" to the #1 spot in its 7th weekend (the last film to do that was "Avatar").

Breaking Down How 'Catching Fire' Became A Record-Breaking Blockbuster

It wasn't easy to turn Suzanne Collins' first book in her "Hunger Games" trilogy into a global blockbuster, nor was it easy to navigate through the departure of director Gary Ross to find his replacement, Francis Lawrence, amid a change of management at the studio, Lionsgate. But producer Nina Jacobson steered the $140-million "Catching Fire" to its takeoff last weekend, when it broke records, and is soaring into the holiday stratosphere.

'Catching Fire' Dominates But Not Record-Breaker, 'Frozen' Massive in LA Exclusive, 'Philomena' Decent in Limited

Many harbored hopes that "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," the second film in the Jennifer Lawrence-starring young adult series, could possibly deliver the biggest domestic release of 2013. But the movie grossed $70 million from Thursday 8 pm through Friday, and should double that gross for the entire weekend. That's a massive number, but less than anticipated.
