Clip Exclusive: The Disappearance of Alice Creed

Here's an exclusive preview from the new British thriller, The Disappearance of Alice Creed, which is set for an August 6 theatrical and VOD release from Anchor Bay. The film from rookie director J Blakeson follows kidnappers Danny (Martin Compston) and Vic (Eddie Marsan) as they try to ransom Alice Creed (Gemma Arterton), the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Creed is determined to break free, and capitalizes on the tenuous relationship between her two captors.

- Since news dropped that Edward Norton won't be reprising his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk in The Avengers, words have been exchanged between Marvel's Kevin Feige and Norton's WME agent Brian Swardstrom, who calls Marvel's statement "[an] inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light." Feige had said that Marvel's decision was ""rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble."

Batman Sets April Start, Powerhouse Ensemble Joins John le Carre Film

Michael Caine has revealed to Digital Spy at the Inception premiere (see below) that the new Batman will begin shooting in April. It's not the first time Caine, who plays Alfred the Butler in the Chris Nolan series, has spilled information about the franchise. A few years ago he said that Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman would be playing The Riddler and the Penguin, respectively. Although those rumors have come and gone, more are taking their place, including Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Riddler. Not a bad idea.

Casting News: DiCaprio in Wolf, Washington in Safe House, Lost's Pellegrino Goes SyFy

- Leonardo DiCaprio is teaming with Ridley Scott (not Scorsese, as once planned) for the screen adaptation of Jordon Belfort's memoir The Wolf of Wall Street, according to Deadline. The screenplay by Sopranos (and Boardwalk Empire) writer Terry Winter follows a head stockbroker (DiCaprio) as he leads his team in coaching clients to purchase stocks that fund their extravagant lives--until they get caught. Scott and DiCaprio are both busy: Scott's helming 3-D Alien prequel and DiCaprio is prepping a Hoover biopic, so it's unclear when Wolf will land on their schedules.

Casting News: Madsen in Red Riding Hood, Irons in Margin Call, YouTubers in Life In A Day

- Catherine Hardwicke has cast Virginia Madsen (Sideways) as the mother of Amanda Seyfried, who plays the title role in Red Riding Hood, repots Variety. Julie Christie has already been cast as the grandmother, Gary Oldman the werewolf hunter, and Lukas Haas the big bad werewolf that terrorizes Red's village. New to this re-telling of the fairy tale, David Leslie Johnson's script features an orphaned woodcutter (played by Shiloh Fernandez) and a blacksmith's son (Max Irons) - the former the object of Red's love and the latter her foredestined fiance. Love will certainly complicate the story, and the combination of stars and relative unknowns will give this medieval thriller plenty to chew on.

Upcoming: Cameron Confirms Titanic in 3D, Bardem in Glee

- In April 2012, 100 years after the great ship sank, Twentieth Century Fox will re-release Titanic in 3D. James Cameron confirmed this Monday after he spoke at Gloria Stuart's 100th Birthday celebration. The actress played the elderly Rose in Cameron's 1997 mega-hit. Cameron called her creativity, artistry and the sparkle in her eyes "a challenge to all of us to live as fully and richly as she has and will continue to do as she heads into her 101st year."

-Rumors are swarming that Billy Elliot's Jamie Bell is Sony's choice for Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot. The young Brit is already the face of Tintin in Sony's Spielberg directed/Jackson produced CGI The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, which comes out December 2011. Could Bell really be both Tintin and Spider-Man? Sony PR refuses to comment on such casting speculation.

Walter Hill Returns to Features with St. Vincent

Walter Hill is one of Hollywood's most neglected master action directors, mostly because he has directed more classics (48 Hours, The Long Riders, The Warriors, Broken Trail) than commercial hits. So it's good news that his indie-financed St. Vincent appears to be moving forward, with a July 12 start of production in Detroit. The crime thriller written by Cameron Young stars Pierce Brosnan as a hitman who disguises himself as a priest to kill a gangland traitor (Billy Bob Thornton). Giovanni Ribisi and Maria Bello also star. Financed by Premier National Studios and Quickfire Films and produced by Claudio Castravelli, Irish Dreamtime’s Beau St. Claire and Jon Turtle, the film is being sold by IM Global at Cannes.

Word from England has Carey Mulligan ardently seeking to play the role of Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming David Fincher remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo written by Steve Zaillian.
