Cannes: Weinstein Co. Unveils a Slate of Singles and Doubles, Unlikely Oscar Contenders

"Harvey was off his game," observed one attendee at the latest Cannes presentation from The Weinstein Co. It's a Cannes tradition to unveil the latest movies that weren't ready for Cannes at the Majestic. One TWC upcoming release was conspicuously missing: Olivier Dahan's "Grace of Monaco," starring Nicole Kidman, which was scheduled as the Cannes opener without Harvey's blessing.

Tim Burton Could Be Back on Track With Artist Biopic 'Big Eyes,' Starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz

Tim Burton is on board to direct his next film, "Big Eyes," which will star Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams as Margaret and Walter Keane, whose paintings of big-eyed children were a mass-market phenomenon in the 1950s and '60s. Burton himself uses a similar big, dark-eyed aesthetic in both his animated films and the makeup design in his live-action films.

Immersed in Movies: Will Animated Black-and-White 3-D 'Frankenweenie' Win Burton His First Oscar?

"Frankenweenie" is not only Tim Burton's best film since "Big Fish" (another rite of passage story), but also a lock for a best animated feature nomination.
