Trailer Watch: Can You Handle the Dogtooth?

Dogtooth, included in indieWIRE's "Summer Preview: The 25 Must-See Films" and The Playlist's "2010 Anticipated: 30 Films We've Already Seen" is a do-not-miss film experience. But can you handle the intense, sexually transgressive, claustrophobic family drama? (There were many walkouts at the Palm Springs Film Festival.) Kino International has released a trailer for the 2009 Greek film, which wowed at festivals, to spark your interest (and churn your stomach).

MTV Movie Awards: Bullock Should Have Kissed Betty White, Eclipse Clip, Cruise and JLo Dance
As I've said, most awards shows are about people promoting themselves. Wouldn't it be a great idea to get the three stars to intro the Twilight: Eclipse video? (It's below, along with clips from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Last Airbender, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.) Let's have lovable wise-ass Betty White and hunk Bradley Cooper give embattled star Sandra Bullock an MTV Generation award and everyone will give her a standing ovation and then Bullock will kiss Scarlett Johansson (who has continued working out since she made Iron Man 2). I would have preferred Bullock to kiss White, who quipped, "Honey, don't you ever wear that dress backwards."

Trailer Watch: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World vs. Jonah Hex

The studios are so in love with comic-book movies that they're digging into material most of us have never read.

Trailer Watch: Cannes Palme d'Or Winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives
For you who want to know more about the Thai film that won the Palme d'Or, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, here's THR's Q & A with the director, known by most as "Joe" Weerasethakul. This was his fifth film in the Cannes official selection. Time Out London also profiles the director. And Salon's Andrew O'Hehir offers a rave review.

Godard Must-See: Breathless Trailer

Run don't walk to see New Wave critic-turned-filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard's 1960 Breathless, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg. I screened this movie for my USC Film Criticism students and they scarfed it up. This black-and-white Godard film, at least, which introduced the disjunctive jump-cut editing that inspired Arthur Penn and Dede Allen's Bonnie and Clyde, is still a breath of fresh air, even 50 years later. (See the trailer below.) On May 28 Rialto is releasing a pristine 35 mm print with new subtitles struck from a restored negative supervised by Godard's director of photography, Raoul Coutard, who used a held-held camera with mostly natural light.

Anton Corbijn’s follow up to 2007's Control has a September 1st release date and one very marketable combination: Clooney, weapons and women.

Promo Reel: John Woo's Reign of Assassins

Currently filming Reign of Assassins looks like a robustly commercial action epic for John Woo and co-director Su Chao-Pin. The way to go these days for Woo and producer Terence Chang is to line-up production finding from several Asian countries, as they did on Red Cliff. (Fortissimo Film Sales is selling the world.) This one stars Michelle Yeoh and Jung Woo-Sung, the hunky action star of The Good, The Bad and the Weird and lots of aerial wire combat--one scene is shot in the dark with flaming swords. Yes!
