Sundance, Redford and Fukunaga Tribute Satter on the 30th Anniversary of Institute Labs

The Sundance Institute mounted an A-list fundraiser in the dark woods at Franklin Canyon last week, complete with music by Fitz and the Tantrums. Sundance founder Robert Redford gave his trademark speech--which he delivers charmingly--about how he saw the need to counteract the prevailing studio trends with a support system for indies, starting with mentor workshops that eventually lead to a place to showcase the work--the Sundance Film Festival.

Super 8 Reviews: "Early Spielberg Classic," Spielberg & Abrams "Spiritually Clash On-Screen" UPDATED

Super 8 Reviews: "Early Spielberg Classic," Spielberg & Abrams "Spiritually Clash On-Screen" UPDATED
I went in to see Super 8 with modest expectations. I kept waiting for the movie to derail and lose its footing at some point. That never happened. I was instantly caught up with this group of kids trying to shoot a movie (the final result unspools over the closing credits, so stick around) and then figure out what sort of thing escaped from a huge train wreck to devastate their town. The rules of this movie are strictly Spielberg sci-fi universe, circa 1979, which is a wonderful place to be.

During his Colbert Report interview with Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), Stephen Colbert sheds doubt on the age of the Chauvet Caves in the filmmaker's latest doc, the 3-D Cave of Forgotten Dreams (below, with the film's trailer). Angelina Jolie Chooses Wisely: Salt Sequel Moves Forward

Angelina Jolie Chooses Wisely: Salt Sequel Moves Forward
Angelina Jolie may have said no to a Wanted sequel (for another film that eventually lost her, Gravity), but that doesn't mean she doesn't know a good franchise when she sees one. Salt went from a Tom Cruise vehicle to an Angelina Jolie action classic, and it's getting a sequel. We've said it before and we'll say it again: Angelina Jolie is the first actress to transcend gender. And it’s hard to argue that any other actress can do what she can.

MTV Movie Awards Show Pushes Raunch with Pattinson/Lautner Kiss, F-Bombs, Sex Tape Advice

Amidst all the shameless self-promotion and PR-mongering that is the MTV Movie Awards, inappropriate behavior raged on at the Sunday night event. There was Jason Sudeikis's "I might be a dad soon," Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis's groping, alluding to what "may or may not be" Blake Lively, Rob Pattinson kissing Taylor Lautner and in his intro for The Generation Award-winner, boasting to his Water for Elephants co-star Reese Witherspoon: "I did get to fuck you."

Trailer Watch: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1; Bella and Edward Get Married UPDATED

The MTV Movie Awards Sunday night glorified golden couple Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart--with not just an award for "Best Kiss," but many more, for their last Twilight installment, Eclipse. Twilight scored five out of twelve awards, with Rob Pattinson beating The Social Network's Jesse Eisenberg for best actor--even if I happily belong to Team Edward, that's absurd. So is Kristen Stewart beating best actress Oscar-winner Natalie Portman. Please. Here's a red carpet gallery. Full list of winners below.

Trailer Watch: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

The trailer for Rupert Wyatt's prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes, starring James Franco as a scientist run amuck and Andy Serkis (Gollum, King Kong) as a smart primate, looks pretty creepy.
