HBO Nabs TV Rights to Whoopi Goldberg's Directorial Debut, Documentary 'Moms Mabley: I Got Somethin' to Tell You'

HBO has acquired all US broadcast and home video rights to Whoopi Goldberg's directorial debut, "Moms Mabley: I Got Somethin' to Tell You," a feature-length documentary about the iconic stand-up comedienne of the title. The film will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 20.

In the Works: AMC Develops Futuristic Crime Series 'Ballistic City' from 'Pacific Rim' Screenwriter and 'Oblivion' Director

AMC is developing a futuristic sci-fi series, "Ballistic City," to be penned by "Pacific Rim" screenwriter Travis Beacham, with "Oblivion" director Joseph Kosinski attached to act as executive producer, and to direct the first episode should the series move to the pilot stage. Per the Hollywood Reporter, the project will be a potential companion to "The Walking Dead."

Aereo's Barry Diller Disrupts the TV Establishment--Yet Again

Over the decades Hollywood has feared and tried to spurn most new technology -- television, video cassette recorders, cable, digital video recorders, and internet access to its goodies. The newest object of its fear is Aereo -- which uses thousands of tiny individual antennas to capture and stream to subscribers free TV channels without paying retransmission fees. Aereo, which, like DVRs, allows subscribers to fast forward past commercials, won big in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals 10 days ago when the court refused to issue an injunction against it.

Amazon and IMDb Launch X-Ray for TV Feature for Kindle Fire Users

Amazon and IMDb are launching a new TV iteration of "X-Ray for Movies." The original feature was released six months ago, and allows users to access corresponding IMDb info with one tap while watching films on their Kindle Fires. The new feature does the same thing, but for television series.

Netflix Sets Wachowskis Free with J. Michael Straczynski for New Original Content Series 'Sense8'

Video service Netflix continues to blaze trails in the original content game. In a brilliant move, the company has tapped the Wachowskis ("Cloud Atlas," "The Matrix") and "Babylon 5" creator Michael J. Straczynski to develop a new series, "Sense8." The few details we know about the project promise a ten-episode first season, available exclusively to Netflix members in late 2014, that spans a global tale of "minds linked and souls hunted."

Damian Lewis on 'Homeland' Season 3: "I Think Brody and Carrie Are Over"

HBO GO "Could Evolve" Into an Internet Package for Non-Subscribers, CEO Plepler Says

HBO CEO Richard Plepler is considering the possibility of partnering with broadband internet providers to widen access to the company's HBO GO streaming service for non-subscribers. Plepler told Reuters, "Maybe HBO GO, with our broadband partners, could evolve."
