AMC's 'The Killing' Rises From the Dead for Lower Budget Third Season

Six months after AMC's "The Killing" was killed off following its second season, the cable network has renewed the show for a third season. Stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman are both set to return to the series.

Bizarro, A-List Movies Lead HBO Lineup: TCA Winter Press Tour 2013

Two provocative new star-driven movies – both about real-life musical geniuses whose lives took a dark turn – dominated HBO’s presentation Friday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. In one, Al Pacino plays reclusive record producer Phil Spector, convicted in 2009 of the gunshot murder of B-movie actress and House of Blues hostess Lana Clarkson. David Mamet directed from his own screenplay, and Helen Mirren plays Spector’s defense lawyer. The other, directed by Steven Soderbergh, features Michael Douglas as the late impresario Liberace, and Matt Damon as his much-younger chauffer and lover, Scott Thorson.

Participant Media to Launch Cable Channel in 2013; 'Entertainment to Inspire Social Change'

Jeff Skoll's Participant Media, which has backed a number of consciousness-raising narrative and documentary features -- "Lincoln," "The Help" and "An Inconvenient Truth," for example -- is extending its reach to TV and launching a cable channel in summer of 2013. The target demographic is 18-to-34-year-olds.

Martin Scorsese is jumping tino the current appetite for presidential profiles. In this case the director and HBO are partnering on an official documentary of the 42nd president of the U.S., Bill Clinton. This doc will be Scorsese’s fourth collaboration with HBO

In the Works: BBC Set to Adapt J.K. Rowling's 'Casual Vacancy'; 'Jane Eyre' Producer Onboard

The BBC is adapting J.K. Rowling's foray into non-YA lit, "The Casual Vacancy." Brit film and TV producer Paul Trijbits will executive produce a television production of the bestseller. Trijbits is first tasked with finding a writer to adapt.

HBO Greenlights Pilot for Mike Judge's Live-Action Comedy 'Silicon Valley' -- I Believe You Have My iStapler

Mike Judge, of "King of the Hill," "Beavis and Butthead" and "Office Space" fame, will dabble into live-action TV with scripted, single-camera comedy "Silicon Valley." HBO has greenlit the pilot.

Yes, it's true: CNN Worldwide is finally going to shake things up by hiring former NBC Universal chief executive Jeff Zucker as its new president, succeeding former head Jim Walton. Zucker's takeover will begin in January of 2013.

'Downton Abbey' Renewed for Fourth Season; Boosts Dockery and Stevens Film Careers

Before American audiences have seen even one episode of the much-anticipated "Downton Abbey" Season 3 (finally premiering on PBS on January 6), news comes that the successful show has been renewed for a fourth season on Britain's ITV. Season 3, which recently aired its finale in the UK, averaged a series ratings high there with 9.7 million viewers.

Misrepresentative review quotes being used for film or TV show ads is nothing new. HBO is the latest to climb on the bandwagon of strategically placed ellipses with its ads for Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom," a show receiving mixed reviews at best.

Amazon Prime Instant Adds 'Fringe' & 'West Wing' to Library for a Supernatural-FBI-Clinton-Administration Summer

Fans of showrunner-creators Aaron Sorkin and J.J. Abrams will find this exciting: Amazon announces today a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. to add both "Fringe" and "The West Wing" to its Prime Instant Video library this summer. Both titles were previously unavailable.
