News Update: Studios Step Up Security, Iron Man Hits Web, Tony Noms, Vaughn Helms X-Men: First Class

L.A. County sheriffs have stepped up security around movie studios in response to the foiled bombing attempt in New York's Times Square. The LAT reports that the bomb's proximity to Viacom headquarters has led to speculation that the company was targeted because of a recent South Park episode on Comedy Central involving the prophet Muhammad. Viacom owns Comedy Central as well as the MTV network.  At MTV and Lionsgate offices in Santa Monica, guards have been checking vehicle trunks since the incident, among other precautions.

News Update: New Orleans, Nashville, Treme, Jonah Hex Trailer

Weekend flooding in Nashville won't be a good thing for TV and film productions in the area (see video below). And in New Orleans, the cast and crew of HBO's Treme are among the many who are "very distraught" about the BP-related oil slick heading for shore, executive producer Eric Overmyer told us Friday. Treme wrapped production on its first season late Friday and doesn't resume for season two until November.

HBO's Tilda Pilot Starts Filming with Keaton in June

The pilot script for an HBO half-hour comedy series, Tilda, written by Bill Condon and Cynthia Mort, is hilarious. (SPOILER ALERT.) Of course Tilda, who blogs out of her L.A. apartment (which resembles my two-story duplex near Fairfax and Pico, although I do not have a rat) is closely modeled after the Nikki Finke reported in Tad Friend's New Yorker profile.

New York Vulture Adds West Coast Editor Adalian, Newsweek.com Adds Exec Editor Snyder

New York Vulture has made a huge play in its ongoing onslaught on the online entertainment trade space: it has hired ex-Variety television reporter Joe Adalian and his TV MoJoe blog (started at TV Week) to be west coast editor. Adalian is the best-read reporter at Sharon Waxman's TheWrap, which has been seeking additional investment and potential partners. The move suggests that Adalian felt more secure (and presumably, well-paid) moving to a more established media entity.

Phillippe Shows Off Abs, Plays Pattinson on SNL

This magazine cover stopped me cold in the check-out line in the supermarket. I have always liked Ryan Phillippe as an actor, but he has never really broken out. He's a little too young and pretty. Many actors need to grow into their manhood, add a few face lines and gravitas before they're taken seriously. (Leonardo DiCaprio has finally grown out of his baby fat.)

You Don't Know Jack Trailer: Pacino, Sarandon, Goodman, Vaccaro, Huston

HBO is churning out movies that I want to see, including Barry Levinson's You Don't Know Jack: The Life and Deaths of Jack Kevorkian. Otherwise known as Dr. Death, Kevorkian went to jail on a murder charge for assisted suicide; he was released in 2007.
