U.S. Army Closes Afghanistan Outpost Restrepo

The U.S. Army has finally closed the remote Afghanistan Restrepo outpost in the deadly Korangal Valley, where some 42 American service men have died. Named after a soldier who died in Afghanistan, the post was the setting for Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington's unforgettable documentary Restrepo, which debuted at Sundance and will be released in July by National Geographic Films under new president Daniel Battsek.

Knight and Day: Cruise, Diaz Clip

The TV spots for high-octane action comedy Knight and Day inspired me to tweet: "Knight and day with cruise and diaz looks cheesy. Even with top dollar vfx."

Tribeca: Exclusive Monogamy Preview

Forget celebrity bad boys like Eliot Spitzer, Tiki Barber, Jesse James and Tiger Woods. Fidelity in everyday relationships seems to be a hot topic in films these days, from Date Night to micro-indies like Breaking Upwards and The Freebie. Add Dana Adam Shapiro's feature directing debut Monogamy to the list. The low-budget indie-financed film debuts April 24 at the Tribeca Film Festival (Submarine is selling). Date Night's Tina Fey Rechannels Sarah Palin on SNL

Tina Fey is the hardest-working woman in show business, creating and starring in NBC's hit sitcom 30 Rock and starring with Steve Carell in Date Night, which is far smarter and more grown-up than most studio comedies these days. Fey's no fool: to boost the movie's opening weekend, she returned to SNL to rechannel Sarah Palin, who is, conveniently, back in the news. Fey announced the "all Sarah Palin all the time" "Sarah Palin Network," with such new series as "Todd!" and "Hey Journalist, I Gotcha!":

Doors Doc is Strange Indeed

Doors Doc is Strange Indeed
I started listening to the The Doors when I was about fourteen, and bought every one of their albums. I have great affection for their music, especially Strange Days, at the same time that I often question how seriously to take it.

Megan Fox is Hot for Teachers

Shocked by California's $17-billion cuts in education in the past two years, with $2.5 billion more in the offing, Stacey Attanasio-Gonsalves produced a grassroots video with help from parents at L.A.'s Wonderland school "to support the efforts of the California statewide PTA to prompt folks to take action," she wrote in an April 8 email. When she enlisted parent Brian Austin Green and actress Megan Fox (who may be the next Red Sonja) to star in the video, Funny or Die got behind it. The video (below) grabbed 150,000 hits soon after it went live Thursday morning. "Call, write, and annoy the governor until he cries for his Mommy," exhorts Fox.

Lionsgate previewed Kick-Ass Monday night in L.A. with a cast-and-writer Q & A to follow. David Lewis was there:Hollywood got a short preview of Comic-Con madness last night at an advance screening of Lionsgate's kinetic comic book adaptation Kick-Ass at the Mann Chinese 6. On hand were Aaron Johnson and co-stars Clark Duke, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Grace Moretz, plus co-writer Jane Goldman and the comic's co-creator John Romita Jr.
