Ten Semi-Finalists for mtvU Oscar Correspondence Contest

The Academy/mtvU OSCARS® Correspondent Contest has named ten semi-finalist college journalism teams, based on creativity, originality and compelling their submitted video material. They are competing for a spot on the red carpet at the 83rd Academy Awards this January.

The Academy/mtvU OSCARS® Correspondent Contest has named ten semi-finalist college journalism teams, based on creativity, originality and compelling their submitted video material. They are competing for a spot on the red carpet at the 83rd Academy Awards this January.

From January 10 to 28, people can vote here for their favorite journalists. Three teams will advance and continue to gain votes between February 7 to 18 and will be flown to Los Angeles to cover events leading up to the Oscars, including the Animated Feature Symposium, Foreign Language Film Award media opportunity, the Makeup Artist and Hairstylist Symposium and the Governors Ball preview. The winning team will be announced February 26 and given red carpet and back stage credentials. Their coverage will air on MTV News and mtvU. The other two teams will get red carpet bleacher seats and access to the Oscar viewing party. The ten finalists are below:

The semifinalists are (listed in alphabetical order by university):

·         Madonna University, Livonia, MI – Idamarie Tedesco (anchor) and Walid Jaward (videographer)
·         Madonna University – Sara Simnitch (anchor) and Adam Woloszyk (videographer)
·         New Mexico State University  – Brandi Parrell (anchor) and Angela Hardenburg (videographer)
·         New York University – Nataliz Jimenez (anchor) and Carla Bernal (videographer)
·         University of Georgia, Athens – Blake Mitchell (anchor) and David Torcivia (videographer)
·         University of Miami, Florida – Scotty Braun (anchor) and Alexandra Cotoulas (videographer)
·         University of Missouri, Columbia – Alex Holley (anchor) and Ryan Brown (videographer)
·         University of Missouri, Columbia – Erica Coghill (anchor) and John Regan (videographer)
·         University of Southern California, Los Angeles – Sarah Erickson (anchor) and Joel Kutz (videographer)
