The Great Gatsby: Pitt vs. Pitt, Mulligan vs. Portman, Casting Poll

Thompson on Hollywood By Sophia Savage | Thompson on Hollywood October 4, 2010 at 8:20AM

- The rumored Great Gatsby remake isn't that far along, it seems. While Deadline sets the record straight on the project's future--the remake might be Baz Luhrmann's next picture, but so might an original musical at Media Rights Capital--the movie does inspire juicy casting ideas.

For Jay Gatsby, Luhrmann remains a Leonardo DiCaprio fan (Romeo + Juliet) but no official offer has been made. Tobey Maguire is a top choice for narrator Nick Carraway, and the role of Daisy is wide open. Casting suggestions on the young side: Chris Pine or Michael Pitt for Gatsby, Carey Mulligan or Natalie Portman for Daisy, Emma Stone or Michelle Monaghan for Myrtle Wilson, and Rachel McAdams for Jordan. Should the cast go older, why not: Brad Pitt as Gatsby, Nicole Kidman as Daisy, Jon Hamm or George Clooney for Daisy's jealous husband Tom, Hugh Jackman for Nick, and Naomi Watts for Jordan? We like Michael Pitt as Gatsby, and Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes, Pride and Prejudice) as Daisy.
