The Tree of Life: Glorious New Clip, Salt in the Wound for Those Not Going to Cannes Premiere

For those of you not seeing Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life premiere May 16 at the Cannes Film Festival, here is more salt to rub in the wound. EW has an exclusive clip. They say the footage "has a dreamy, remembered quality to it thanks to fluid camera movements, soft light, and jump cuts. It’s beautiful, no doubt. But what does it mean?" We say just enjoy it, and don't ask questions. Check it out here. The Tree of Life has a limited US release May 27.

    There are some films that you hold such high expectations for that they can never live up to what you imagine them to be and I think the thing I often find mesmerizing about Malick's work is that even if his films do not live up to that initial expectation, I thoroughly enjoy them. After Badlands and Days of Heaven I wouldn't class either The Thin Red Line or The New World as masterpieces, yet there are certain moments in both films which are so breathtakingly beautiful I have been moved to tears. Regardless, I cannot wait for this film.
