TIFF Deal: Millennium Nabs John Turturro's Comedy 'Fading Gigolo,' Starring Woody Allen as a Pimp

Millennium Entertainment has snapped up US rights to John Turturro's comedy that he wrote, directed and stars in, "Fading Gigolo." Turturro plays a hapless middle-aged man trying out his luck as a male prostitute, while Woody Allen (!) is his bookseller-turned-pimp. Vanessa Paradis, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber and Sofia Vergara also star.

Millennium Entertainment has snapped up US rights to John Turturro's comedy that he wrote, directed and stars in, "Fading Gigolo." Turturro plays a hapless middle-aged man trying out his luck as a male prostitute, while Woody Allen (!) is his bookseller-turned-pimp. Vanessa Paradis, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber and Sofia Vergara also star.

The film recently debuted at Toronto; the Hollywood Reporter deemed it "an odd, sometimes funny, other times touching, always modest look at a strange bunch of New Yorkers."

Thompson on Hollywood

Born and raised in Manhattan, Anne Thompson grew up going to the Thalia and The New Yorker and wound up at grad Cinema Studies at NYU. She worked at United Artists and Film Comment before heading west as that magazine's west coast editor. She wrote for the LA Weekly, Sight and Sound, Empire, The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly before serving as West Coast Editor of Premiere.
