Austin's Fantastic Fest will host the world premiere of Tim Burton's playfully Goth return to stop-motion animation, "Frankenweenie." The film will open the week long festival on September 20, prior to its theatrical release on October 5.

The screening will take place at Austin's renowned Alamo Drafthouse. Tim League, Fantastic Fest co-founder and Drafthouse director, says Burton "stands as a titan of modern genre cinema," and being able to debut the feature adaptation of the director's career-starting short film "is a huge honor for me personally and for the festival in general."

"Frankenweenie" was filmed in black-and-white and rendered in 3D. It follows a young boy named Victor who loses his beloved canine pal Sparky. He then pulls a Colin Clive and resurrects the dog through the harnessed powers of science. The estimable voice cast includes Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau and Winona Ryder.
