Tina Fey is set to star in and produce "The Taliban Shuffle," the big-screen adaptation of Kim Barker's memoir of the same title, which recounts her work as a journalist in Afghanistan and Pakistan since 2002.

Though the subject doesn't sound like any laughing matter, Barker's book apparently captures a tone halfway between hilariously entertaining and weep-worthy (NYT review here). Sounds like funny-woman Fey is a good choice, and this could be a moment for her to flex some more dramatic muscles, too.

No director is attached for the Paramount project, but Fey's "30 Rock" alum-writer Robert Carlock has penned the script.

On the upcoming slate for Fey is Shawn Levy's "This Is Where I Leave You" and Disney's "Muppets Most Wanted."
