IMDb names the top ten stars of 2012, as well as the top emerging stars, as determined by total page views on the popular movie database. "The Dark Knight Rises" stars Tom Hardy (#1), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (#4) and Christian Bale (#5) scored high in the top ten, pushing Johnny Depp to his lowest-ranking ever (#7). Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, who were #1 and #2 last year, are off the list completely. What a difference a year makes. Jennifer Lawrence is at #2, while her "Hunger Games" co-star Josh Hutcherson is #9 and Liam Hemsworth is #1 on the Emerging Stars list. So long "Twilight" stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson; they are only #10 and #33, respectively, with their vampire days behind them.

Rounding out the top ten are Chris Hemsworth, Channing Tatum and Emma Stone. Best movie of the year? "The Dark Knight Rises" is #1 and "The Avengers" is #2, according to IMDb users (a majority of whom we presume to be men between the age of 18 and 34).

For the first time, IMDb also conducted a critics' poll for its year-in-review special section, compiling top ten lists from actors, directors, writers and industry influencers. Participants include:

Director Adrian Lyne (Jacob’s Ladder, Fatal Attraction; Nine ½ Weeks; Flashdance; Unfaithful); actor Thomas Jane (Hung); writer/director Dustin Lance Black (Milk); producer Dana Brunetti (The Social Network, House of Cards); journalists Anne Thompson (INDIEWire) Sharon Waxman (The Wrap) and Anthony Breznican (Entertainment Weekly); writer/director Lynn Shelton (Your Sister’s Sister), musician Mike McCready (Pearl Jam); actress Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding); director/producer Lucy Walker (Waste Land); director Penelope Spheeris (Wayne’s World); director/producer Paris Barclay (Sons of Anarchy); Dashielle Driscoll (Funny or Die); director/writer Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children); Helen Cowley (editor of LOVEFiLM); Col Needham (IMDb’s founder and CEO); and Keith Simanton (IMDb’s managing editor).
