Of the first trailer, we said that Steven Spielberg's PG-13 film version of the heart-tugging Word War I drama War Horse "looks like an Academy-friendly no-brainer." We called it a "four-hankie."

It still is. The film adapted by Lee Hall and Richard Curtis from Michael Morpurgo’s novel (the subsequent stage play is now wowing theatergoers on Broadway), boasts epic scope but plays out on a human scale. And John Williams' score works overtime. War Horse will wish us all a Merry Christmas on December 25.

It stumped me when Benedict didn't win the BAFTA for "Sherlock" but then there is next year. It's baffling to me when he doesn't win an award or even Not get nominated for one. He's going to stun them all this year (and next with "Parade's End") with "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy" and for whatever time he has in "War Horse". He already has made his mark in the trailer as everyone seems to be using the "Be Brave" line.
An interview with the young man playing the lead said he was having a tough day and Ben told him this was his job and when you do your job you do it the very best you can - then when you go home you can freak out.
I've learned things from reading interviews of his when he talks about the roles he is playing and the history of the time and the people and all kinds of things. Knowlege is a good thing - and being intelligent and caring about your work is a good thing. One of the reasons I'm so impressed by him, besides his amazing talent.

Holly, I agree. Benedict Cumberbatch ( he was so great as Sherlock Holmes ) is beyond brilliant, and he does the best impressions. Benedict will win an Oscar one day. I will take Mr. Cumberbatch over the very overrated acting talents of George Clooney & Brad Pitt. The Brits ( and Aussies ) are really taking over Hollywood.

I'm not a fan of Spielberg but I'll watch it to see Benedict Cumberbatch who is an outstanding actor.
