Joss Whedon's The Avengers -- a.k.a. superheroes playing with other superheroes and congratulating each other on being masters of the universe -- is in theaters May 4, 2012. Check out what the film has in store in the teaser below. It allows everyone to talk except Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, so we are going to go out on a limb and guess that this film will be no great step for womankind.

@Dr. Evil. You're absolutely right. Btw Sophia Savage, this movie looks great, and if anything, Black Widow looks strong, sexy and empowered. Obviously, you have no idea what you are talking about, or perhaps you simply do not understand the nature of the character. Did you even see Iron Man 2? I think that just watching that movie will show you how wrong you are about Scarlett Johansson's character. I advise you inform yourself about the movies you talk about before unfairly judging them. Also, to call "The Avengers" a film about "superheroes playing with other superheroes" is to denigrate the public's opinion of a film that I strongly doubt you've seen. So please, make contentions that you can back and appreciate the trailer.

    Dear Sophia Savage,

Let me present my take on the on the trailer and a few comments about it. As you probably know, the purpose of a trailer is to show off some exciting stuff such that people come and see the movie. Whedon slid under the radar after his success with his TV series and now that somebody gambled to have him directing a potential blockbuster he does not want any negative press around his project. I think this is why he shows just a little bit of Scarlett in order not to attract more press about her leaked naked pictures over the internet. This does not mean that Scarlett's character is not going to have some kick-ass lines or contribution to the plot, I mean we are talking about Buffy's father here and you should definitely have some faith in Whedon's agenda.
Now back to Whedon himself. He and his fellow director, Michael Bay, went to film school at Wesleyan University, an outrageously expensive private school in Connecticut. So if you put these two guys against each other, whom do you like better in terms of bodywork? It's pretty recent history and we all know how this two guys fared in show-biz. If this project was Bay's he would just jump at it and make hell of a mess(like Transformers) and let's not forget how he fired Megan Fox: he had Spielberg ordering him to just throw her at the unsavory first joke about a comparison with you know who. But again, reports of Bay's brutal behavior towards Fox during production are pretty unsettling, so maybe she needed to compare him with some s.o.b. that gave a lot of grief to humanity. Up to now we have Bay as a tyrant with the little ones which looses his spine when somebody above him asks him to bend over. Joss on the other hand did not have the same luck to be favored by the heavies at Hollywood. He lost a lot by trying to be following his artistic views and not to mention that Fox wanted to reboot Buffy without him. This movie is probably his last big occasion at a great career at Hollywood and he is probably treading lightly on all fronts including scandals that his stars are involved in.
In the end, I advise you to be more cautious with your fast conclusions and write with a more serious purpose other than a lame jab at a creator that introduced Buffy(strong female character) to the world.

Maybe you should see the whole movie and/or know a lil something about the director before making judgments. Joss Whedon isn't exactly known for diminishing female characters.

Wohoo!! Scarlett Johansson looks like a strong, empowered and sexy Black Widow. I love how she leaps up onto some henchman's shoulders with her legs wrapped around his face, thrusting him down against the ground. Hahah.. freakin’ fantastic, can’t wait! Man! I feel like a woman!
