Tribeca Film and Miramax Films have made a U.S. distribution deal for relationship drama Last Night (pictured), starring Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet. Tribeca Film has acquired theatrical, VOD and select digital rights; a Spring 2011 release is planned. Miramax retains distribution rights for home video, television sales and long-term digital rights.
New distrib Tribeca Film launched in March, 2010; it is now a year-round distribution initiative intent on buying and marketing indie films across multiple platforms. Tribeca Film also recently acquired The Bang Bang Club starring Ryan Phillippe and plans to continue to expand its release program through 2011. This deal with Tribeca Film is the new Miramax team's first U.S. distribution deal. The company is mainly focused on taking advantage of its stellar film library. "We see our deal with Tribeca Film as a strong example of the kind of strategic alliances we are looking to develop," says Miramax CEO Mike Lang. "We look forward to expanding the film's reach to audiences globally as well as maximizing all of Miramax’s retained rights, especially on the digital front.”
