True Grit is a revenge western. Thus, the Coen brothers' poster--designed to resemble an Old West "Wanted" flier--stresses "punishment" and "retribution."

    I guess there was no room on the poster for "based on the novel by Charles Portis," or the name of the young actress who is featured in practically every scene of the story.
