The adrenaline rush of being on the Oscar red carpet is intense. The Oscar nominees, guests and presenters walk a long gauntlet of press, and as the show looms, they often go running by the print press stand. I was actually taking photos, tweeting and doing flip cam videos. It's fun to see how the different stars and filmmakers handle the excitement and the endless questions about who and what they are wearing. Some are old hands (Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, Janet McTeer) , some are newcomers (Berenice Bejo, Melissa McCarthy, William Joyce).

When asked what has changed since the last time she was at the Oscars (for "Tumbleweeds"), a relaxed McTeer responded: "A bigger bottom?" Colin Firth told London Daily Mail veteran Baz Bamigboye that he was wearing "vintage hand-me-downs from last year's winner. It's my gesture to sustainability."

The night's big winner Harvey Weinstein said that "The Artist" star Uggie, who was banned from the red carpet, "has charmed a lot of people." He told Bamigboye that he feels "blessed" this year. "This is a gift." The film's producer Thomas Langemann said, "We did this as a tribute to American cinema...It's a silent movie, it belongs to the whole world. Nationality is not for cinema, America put the light on this picture--Cannes and here, amazing."

Ludovic Bourse, who won for best score, said "The Artist" used the theme from "Vertigo" at the finale as a "declaration of love to my master Bernard Herrmann, it was important to honor this fantastic composer, who inspires composers all over the world."

"Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig and producer Judd Apatow talk about the option of adding comedy categories to the Oscar show. And AMPAS president Tom Sherak talks about how hard it is to change the Academy.

The filmmakers of the HBO doc "Paradise Lost 3" (available on HBO Go) brought star-struck "Memphis Three" former inmate Jason Baldwin, who just months ago had been incarcerated in prison, on death row, for 18 years. Now he's studying for law school. "Every day I wake up thankful to be here," he says. "This is the icing on the cake."

And Wim Wenders, director of documentary entry "Pina," says docs don't have to just be about disasters and catastrophes. "I think it's fine that every now and then docs are about art." His next movie, the fiction feature "Everything is Fine," will be in 3-D, he says. It's financed and ready to cast and shoot in Vancouver by the end of the year.

For his part, "Margin Call" writer-director JC Chandor is heading to Rosarita Beach, where "Titanic" was filmed, to shoot a one-man movie about a survivor at sea alone in a boat. Robert Redford will star. "It's 'Castaway' without the volleyball," says Chandor. "I sent it to him never expecting it to go anywhere." The film starts in May, backed by Universal (foreign) and Lionsgate (domestic).

Meanwhile "Ides of March" co-writer Beau Willimon is heading back to Washington to shoot David Fincher's remake of Brit TV series "House of Cards," about "bad people doing bad things in the world of Washington." Kevin Spacey stars. Distributor Netflix has committed to two seasons, 26 episodes, and will bypass TV to stream the series.

William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg of "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore" were building an animation studio (Moonbot) as they produced their Oscar-winning short, which grew from seven to fourteen minutes and became an iPad and iTunes hit; a book is coming. Now they have 35 employees and have to keep growing. Their next will be "the world's tallest short film," they said. "It's a remake of 'Metropolis.'"
