New Digital Restoration of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' Hits Theaters Friday, Blu-ray Release September 18

Following a successful one-week IMAX engagement, Paramount is giving Spielberg's classic action flick "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" an extended theatrical run starting September 14, playing in more than 300 digital cinemas across the country and anticipating the film's Blu-ray release on September 18.

Following a successful one-week IMAX engagement, Paramount is giving Spielberg's classic action flick "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" an extended theatrical run starting September 14, playing in more than 300 digital cinemas across the country and anticipating the film's Blu-ray release on September 18.

The film's new digital restoration was overseen by Spielberg and renowned sound designer Ben Burtt, and pains were taken to preserve the 1981 original's look, sound and feel. Included in the Blu-ray extras is seven hours of bonus material, including the new doc "On Set with Raiders of the Lost Ark - From Jungle to Desert and From Adventure to Legend," with rare production footage and archival interviews with Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford.

Thompson on Hollywood

Born and raised in Manhattan, Anne Thompson grew up going to the Thalia and The New Yorker and wound up at grad Cinema Studies at NYU. She worked at United Artists and Film Comment before heading west as that magazine's west coast editor. She wrote for the LA Weekly, Sight and Sound, Empire, The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly before serving as West Coast Editor of Premiere. She wrote for The Washington Post, The London Observer, Wired, More, and Vanity Fair, and did staff stints at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. She eventually took her blog Thompson on Hollywood to Indiewire. She taught film criticism at USC Critical Studies, and continues to host the fall semester of “Sneak Previews” for UCLA Extension.
