Yes, we are starting to see a pattern. George Clooney and Carey Mulligan notched more wins today as the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics announced their annual awards. So did Mo'Nique and Christoph Waltz, while Kathryn Bigelow won best director.
Right Remy, Mo'Nique only gives one of the greatest performances ever and SHE's the one you object to. Ask yourself some questions. "Up in the Air"? Nice movie, except for the fact it exploits the unemployed to make Clooney look blessed and Reitman look progressive. Look for it to be out of awards gas by next week.
...and that is one stellar line-up of movies and talent. The only win I'm not so happy with is Mo'Nique's.
I'm still hoping Peter Sarsgaard and Meryl Streep will start playing a bigger role in this awards season soon. And also "Me and Orson Welles" - not very likely, but, on top of Christian McKay, it would be nice to see Claire Danes, the screenplay and the movie recognized.

What questions should I be asking myself?

Long way to go, though, obviously.
