Everyone in Hollywood reads the industry tea leaves, the probable truth behind every announcement and its attendant spin. As the awards season takes shape, three major releases are jockeying for position: "Gone Girl," "Inherent Vice" and "Birdman." The Hollywood studios, indie distributors, Oscar campaigners and strategists were pushing the New York Film Festival (September 26 - October 12) for their awards hopefuls, wanting to land a coveted gala slot.

‘Project Greenlight’ Returns, and They Want Your Work

Some nine years after going off the air, HBO, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon have revived “Project Greenlight" in a new day and age for discovery. As introduced in a very quick video, the project, in Damon’s words, remains an exercise in “documenting what’s actually happening when people try to make a movie together.”

New Cast Join Affleck, Cavill in Superman/Batman Flick

Director Zack Snyder has added Oscar-winning character actress Holly Hunter to the cast of the still untitled Superman/Batman movie that Warner Bros. has wisely pushed back to May 6, 2016. He has also cast muscled action players Callan Mulvey ("300: Rise of an Empire") and Tao Okamoto ("The Wolverine"). Departing from the established DC canon (something Marvel rarely does), all three actors will play characters newly created for the film.

David Fincher's 'Gone Girl' Set for October 2014 Release UPDATED

UPDATE: David Fincher's big-screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's mystery thriller "Gone Girl," starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, has settled on a release date. It's slated for October 3, 2014. This is the same weekend Fincher's Oscar-winning "The Social Network" (for Adapted Screenplay, Editing and Original Score) hit theaters in 2010.
