Review Roundup: Critics Find Affleck and Timberlake's 'Runner Runner' to Be Mediocre Mediocre

Ben Affleck may be on a roll in 2013, with Oscar-winning "Argo," and his casting as Batman in Zack Snyder's Superman-Batman installment, as well as the co-lead in David Fincher's "Gone Girl," but "Runner Runner" won't go down as another victory in his banner year. Critics have only dismal things to say about the thriller, which co-stars Justin Timberlake; the two leads play men caught up in a dangerous online gambling enterprise in Costa Rica.

WATCH: Ben Affleck Talks Batman Casting, and Being Humbled by Internet Reactions

Ben Affleck finally opened up about being cast as Batman on last night's "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." The actor-director, who took home a Best Picture Oscar for "Argo" earlier this year, said he initially thought he could handle the inevitable backlash to the news of him donning the Bat Suit. But when he spotted even one internet comment (reading: "Noooooooo"), he opted to be a Luddite for a few days. Watch below.

BAFTA Awards in London: 'Argo' Wins Director & Picture, Riva Actress, Day-Lewis Actor, Russell Adapted Screenplay, Tarantino Original

The cold and wet BAFTA awards got under way Sunday night in London. The big question for Oscar-watchers was whether "Argo" would keep its awards juggernaut rolling, even though "Lincoln," like the Oscars, has the most nominations, ten, including best film and best actor for Daniel Day-Lewis. Ben Affleck (up for three awards) and producer George Clooney made the schlep to London with that hope in mind. As host Stephen Fry noted, "I have a strong feeling I'm not the only actor who’s come here this evening with a beard."

'Argo' Wins Again at USC Scripter Awards

Unstoppable awards juggernaut "Argo" won yet another award Saturday night as New York screenwriter Chris Terrio, Wired journalist Joshuah Bearman ("The Great Escape") and ex-CIA analyst Tony Mendez ("The Master of Disguise") won the 25th annual Scripter Award. The USC Scripters go to adapted scripts as well as the original writers. It may have been just as well that the expected Scripter winners, "Team of Rivals" author Doris Kearns Goodwin and playwright/screenwriter Tony Kushner, were snowed in on the East Coast.

Trailer Watch: Sun-Soaked Love in Terrence Malick's 'To The Wonder'

Terrence Malick's "To The Wonder" was not received with the same enthusiasm as "The Tree of Life," but as usual it has its lovers and haters -- this is to be expected with the auteur's uncompromising work. "To The Wonder," which premiered at Venice and Toronto earlier this year and stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem, will be released stateside April 12 by Magnolia Pictures. Take a look at the trailer below, which echos themes from "Tree of Life" in a more romantic context. It features the trademark sun-soaked imagery from Malick's go-to cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki.

Review Roundup: Damon & Van Sant Fracking Drama 'Promised Land' Lacks Subtlety

"Promised Land" is Matt Damon's third teaming with director Gus Van Sant, who jumped into directing the film at the last minute after Damon decided he couldn't direct the film that he wrote with John Krasinski. We know that Van Sant is a capable director--nothing is wrong with his handling of this material. The fault lies in the script, which is well-intentioned with a strong anti-fracking message.
