Two-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain has a most busy year coming up. This Fall, we'll see her in Christopher Nolan's ambitious sci-fi "Interstellar" (November 7) and, hopefully on the festival circuit at least, in director Liv Ullman's Strindberg adaptation "Miss Julie." Also in post-production is director JC Chandor's "A Most Violent Year." And now, she's been cast as Marilyn Monroe.

'All Is Lost' Is Far from Silent, Even with No Dialogue (VIDEO)

In space or on the ocean, no one can hear you scream. Comparisons abound between solo adventures "Gravity" and "All Is Lost," but unlike space, the ocean is far from silent. Even though J.C. Chandor's remarkable open-water survival thriller starring a 77-year-old Robert Redford boldly stepping out of his comfort zone is virtually dialogue-free. Thus the director was totally on board with making the sound design a driving narrative force.

NYFF: Redford Eventually Does Show for 'All Is Lost' Press Conference (TRAILER)

There’s a running gag among the media regarding Robert Redford’s lack of punctuality – he’s always seemed to take a perverse pleasure in letting the press cool its collective heels. So there wasn’t a lot of surprise in the room at the New York Film Festival Tuesday morning when critic Amy Taubin and director J.C. Chandor were left by their lonesomes, on stage at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater, waiting for Redford to appear at the post-screening press conference for Chandor’s “All Is Lost” -- the one-man-Redford show about a sailor lost at sea, and which could – could – be the film that earns the actor his late-inning Oscar.

Check the San Francisco Critics Circle winners below against the Screen Actors Guild votes today, for example, which are far more predictive, as its members actually have some overlap with the Academy's largest branch, the actors.
