Details are arriving on what movies the studios will showcase at Comic-Con, which launches in San Diego on July 24. Not all of them will be in Show H--more and more, they are traveling off-site to play to press directly, away from the fan hordes.

Peter Jackson, Joe Letteri and Weta Digital to Receive Producers Guild 2014 Vanguard Award

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) will honor Peter Jackson, visual effects artist Joe Letteri and Weta Digital with the Producers Guild’s 2014 Vanguard Award, which recognizes advancements in new media and technology. It will be presented at the 25th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony on January 19.

Peter Jackson's return to Middle-earth with "The Hobbit" at the higher frame rate of 48 is certainly a bold experiment. It's new; it's different; it's smoother; it's more realistic. But there's no question that HFR 3-D is already causing an aesthetic divide. For some, it's jarring; for others, it's jaw-dropping.

Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit': Review and Reaction Roundup UPDATED

Finally, the last films of the year are being screened, just in time for early critics voting. While early reactions to this weekend's "Django Unchained" were upbeat, reviews so far are mixed on Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Reactions came in from both the New Zealand premiere, held on Wednesday, and a slew of Los Angeles screenings. Complaints from the premiere took the form of dizziness and even motion sickness from watching the controversial 48 fps, while L.A. critics found the film padded, overlong and shockingly lacking in women.

- The trailer for Roman Coppola's high-style comedy "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III" (here and below) features Charlie Sheen, Bill Murray, and Jason Schwartzman sporting a major Afro. It's clear that working with Wes Anderson has had a strong influence on Coppola's second feature. - Jon Hamm is considering starring in "Epic Fail," a Kevin Costello written comedy about a high school teacher who attempts to fake some heroism by hiring two of his students to stage a kidnapping of his wife.
