Quentin Tarantino and Richard Kelly Talk Tony Scott at Double Feature of 'True Romance' and 'Domino'

Quentin Tarantino took time from editing "Django Unchained" Friday night to pay tribute to mentor Tony Scott at a double feature screening of "True Romance" and "Domino" arranged by Backstory's Jeff Goldsmith at the LA Film School in Hollywood. "Domino" writer Richard Kelly joined the Q & A between the two 35 mm unspoolings.

Saturday morning Comic-Con's cavernous Hall H was packed with 6000 fans, many of whom stayed up all night to gain a seat, to get a gander at an eight-minute sizzle reel of clips from the first half of Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" (slated optimistically for release by Weinstein Co. on December 25).

Trailer Watch: Tarantino's 'Django Unchained' Hits Web

A group of journalists in Cannes saw much of the footage from Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" that hit the web in its first trailer Wednesday. The trailer leaked before a planned Fandango launch today. The Weinstein Co. and Sony are partnered on the film which is still in mid-production and is set to finish in mid-July for December 25 release.

The Majestic Salon Diane was packed with the top movie press in Cannes, notebooks poised, as the King of Cannes, Harvey Weinstein, introed and unveiled footage from three upcoming Oscar hopefuls that weren't ready for the Croisette this year: Paul Thomas Anderson's $35 million "The Master" (here's how the footage played; it's set for an October 12 release, which TWC is releasing globally, financed by Megan Ellison's Annapurna), David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" (TWC, November 21) and Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," a global partnership with Sony (slates for December 25, we'll see if it happens).

Well, the official stateside poster for Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" is out, and I like it. Why? In a simple, Saul Bass way, it tells you what the movie is about--slavery in the ante-bellum South. And it plays on the title.

Here is Quentin Tarantino’s official Top Eleven of 2011, per the Tarantino Archives. I am happy to see that Tarantino shares my love of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," as a script and as a movie. I love it that "The Artist" ties with another Weinstein Co. film, "Our Idiot Brother." He does seem to admire Hazanavicius, as he puts him on his best director list. As "Iron Lady" and "My Week with Marilyn" are also on his list, methinks he is being kind to the Weinsteins.
