Writers Guild Excludes Key Scripts as Ineligible: King's Speech, Winter's Bone

It happens every year. And the Writers Guild should not be concerned about the Oscar race (nor should film critics in their year-end voting). But in the end, when the WGA so often deems many of the year's best film scripts ineligible for their awards, it does seem like they're missing something.

It happens every year. And the Writers Guild should not be concerned about the Oscar race (nor should film critics in their year-end voting). But in the end, when the WGA so often deems many of the year's best film scripts ineligible for their awards, it does seem like they're missing something.

What they're missing is folks who aren't members or signatories to the Guild. This year that includes, as always, several films that could wind up with Oscar nominations without any help from the WGA: animated features such as Toy Story 3, foreign films such as Brit The King's Speech and Another Year, and micro-indies such as Winter's Bone and Blue Valentine.

Last year Brit An Education and Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds were ineligible, along with Pixar's Up, which nonetheless were nominated for screenwriting Oscars. The full list of eligible films is below.
