Bela Tarr in Brooklyn--HOLYGODALMIGHTYTHATISWHATI'MTALKINGABOUT

Thank you, Tom Hall, for giving me a reason to live by informing me that BAM is screening Bela Tarr's three most towering achievements next month. On February 23rd through the 25th, I will get to see DAMNATION, SATANTANGO, and WERCKMEISTER HARMONIES in an actual theatre, on an actual big screen. Though SATANTANGO was just released on DVD, I desperately didn't want to watch it in that format (remember, I'm the moron who didn't discover Tarr and WERCKMEISTER until the middle of last year--and I call myself a filmmaker--yeah, right). I wanted to spend seven hours inside a movie theatre being taken all the way awayyyyy, and I was afraid that I wasn't going to get that opportunity for a long, long time. But that's the beauty of New York City, ladies and gentlemen. That's the beauty of BROOKLYN, goddamn it. Wish for something strange and unlikely, and there it is, all up in your giddy, grinning grill.

Speaking of Brooklyn and top-notch cinema, I'll be at Barbes NEXT MONDAY NIGHT (the 15th) to watch DANCE PARTY USA one mo' 'gain. Go here for details.

I spent three dollars this whole weekend. Hooray for me...
