Today was my first day working on the new Michael Lerman/Alex Cannon/Paul Cannon feature, which has, without a doubt, THE MOST INSANE SCHEDULE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. It's so preposterous that it's actually hilarious. The trouble is, these guys are young, and I am old. So while they will be able to work ten straight eighteen hour days, I'm not sure if my aging bones will be as sturdy. Today was 8:30am-2:30am. Tomorrow is 7:30am-1:30am (though that will probably go longer). And that's how it's looking for the whole shoot. Fortunately, the assembled cast and crew are all incredibly nice, so I'm somehow looking forward to the rest of the experience. That said, I will have a mid-week respite from the production, in order to attend the QUIET CITY screening and party on Wednesday night. If I fall asleep, it isn't because I don't like it, nor is it because I've already seen it a few times. It will be because I am t-i-r-e-d.

I shouldn't even be writing this right now. I have to wake up in three hours and I'm t-i-r-e-d. (Did I say that I was t-i-r-e-d?) But I felt I owed the world a reminder that today is a very big day for independent cinema. Now anyone anywhere can purchase or rent two films that made a hearty splash on the 2006 film festival circuit. The first is Joe Swanberg's LOL, released by Benten Films, and the second is Michael Tully and Damian Lahey's COCAINE ANGEL, released by Indiepix. (Sorry, I'm too tired to post links right now.) Do yourself a favor and buy these stunningly important works of historically profound art.

Which leads me to some pretty bad news. I just got my official Mumblecore rejection letter in the mail today. The reason? COCAINE ANGEL had three black people in it. I tried to argue that it was only three, and that it was a very conscious decision to not cast an African-American in either of the two lead roles (or anyone else of color, for that matter--it was hard enough having to work with females every day), but that wasn't good enough for them. We broke the movement's number one rule. They concluded by informing me that until I make at least three features with heterosexual Caucasian males in every single role, then I needn't bother reapplying. I guess it's back to the drawing board. Oh well. (Very Important Note: Just in case anyone has stumbled upon this site who doesn't know me, THIS PARAGRAPH WAS WRITTEN USING THE LITERARY DEVICE CALLED "SARCASM". Another Very Important Note: I realize how juvenile this paragraph is, yet I am tired, angry, and insulted, and this is my childish way of dealing with it; I apologize.)

Seriously, buy LOL and COCAINE ANGEL and make all your dreams come true!
