Sundance, Here I Come
Within a week, my life has changed rather dramatically. That's how it goes, I guess. In a rather refreshing turn of events, I'll be attending my first ever Sundance from the 17th-25th to begin writing reviews for a potentially great new website devoted to under-the-radar indie films (i.e., Low and Behold and not Little Miss Sunshine, or this year, Baghead and Goliath and not Be Kind Rewind). The site doesn't even have a name yet, so I'll hold off on details until we're ready to make a public announcement. That said, the plan is to be posting reviews from Park City, even though the website will have a bare bones setup at this early stage. I've always said that I wouldn't go to Sundance unless I had a film in the festival or someone covered my trip, and here I am getting my trip covered, so there you go. I stand behind my aversion to the machine that is the Sundance Film Festival, which is why I'm so excited to be writing for a site that is devoted to the films that most of the industry doesn't want to cover. Unlike most of the press and industry, whether or not a film sells for ten million dollars doesn't determine its relevance to us. We're passionate movie watchers who want to be moved by work that transcends budget constraints and delivers an aesthetic, emotional wallop of some sort. I'm looking very forward to spreading the word, and treating these smaller films with the attention of higher profile, bigger budgeted works. More to come... Posted by tully on Jan 14, 2008 at 10:26AM legend, well done Posted by jt on Jan 14, 2008 at 10:26AM I want to see Frownland. I live in Los Angeles. What should I do, Michael Tully? Posted by Jennifer Roe on Jan 14, 2008 at 10:26AM you just missed your chance to see it, Jennifer Roe! but fear not, it sounds like the LA screening went so well that there is going to be a six-month midnight run in the near future at the same theater where it showed. when i get specifics from Ronzo Bronzo, i will be sure to let the world know. it's going to be like ERASERHEAD for the 21st Century! Posted by tully on Jan 14, 2008 at 10:26AM I wish I knew someone with a name like Ronzo Bronzo. Instead I have friends with names like Seth, Megan, Susan, Val, and Shannon. Ronzo Bronzo is a cool name. What theatre do you think it will be showing at? NuArt? Sunset Five? The Cinefamily? Posted by Jennifer Roe on Jan 14, 2008 at 10:26AM Nice one, Bruvvah!
