Last Night Rocked (And Other Things)

Thanks to everyone for coming out last night to watch my program of short films at Barbes. It was really exciting to present my favorite recent work to a packed room of interested eyes. And judging by the reactions, I have pretty good taste! I found the night to be so rewarding that I would like to do more curating/programming in the future. Perhaps this is the spark I need to get my "Awfully Great Cinema Series" up and running. Maybe by this summer. This spring is gonna be kinda hectic.

In other news, I wrote a letter to long distance relationships that I thought you might enjoy. Don't get me wrong, distance isn't getting in the way this time around--it's actually worrisome how boundlessly I'm continuing to fall in love every single day (I know I said I wouldn't write about it but I can't help it!)--but it's interesting for me to intellectually break down the concept of long distance relationships and realize how insidious and nasty they can be. They were put on this earth to disrupt and destroy otherwise perfect situations. But they won't destroy mine! Anyway, here's the letter:

Dear Long Distance Relationships,

FUCK YOU.

Sincerely,

Michael Tully

Lastly, I'm about to finally catch up on the past three episodes of The Wire that I missed. Or as I'm calling it: The Best Tuesday Afternoon Ever.

Oh yeah, lastly-lastly. I just watched Josh Safdie's The Pleasure of Being Robbed, which is world-premiering at South by Southwest, and all I can say is yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!! Yet another example that super-16mm is the way to go. Add Josh Safdie to the short, special list of filmmakers like Ronnie Bronstein and Azazel Jacobs who are just light years beyond the rest of us little people. Do not miss The Pleasure of Being Robbed at SXSW. I'm not kidding.

Okay, now I'm done.

5 years in a long distance relationship finally beat me down so much I actually took the unheard of step of moving to Washington, DC. Mike I sincerely hope this doesn't happen to you. I haven't eaten a decent meal in 4 months. I'd kill a man for a bagel.

ROBBED really is something special.

Michael Tully, you are a wonderful human being, & you make me laugh very hard.
