A Lost Peter Davis Classic At Stranger Than Fiction Tonight: SECOND TIME AROUND

Tonight’s edition of Stranger Than Fiction at the IFC Center sounds like a must-attend event (unfortunately, I have an earlier commitment that might get in the way but I’m trying to pull off both). One of my true cinematic revelations of 2009 is the lost ‘80s classic Seventeen. It turns out, that film was part of a six-film series produced by Peter Davis (Hearts and Minds) called Middletown. In each documentary, filmmakers pointed their cameras at a different part of the community in Muncie, Indiana. As part of the STF tribute to Peter Davis, tonight’s film is another lost gem, Second Time Around, which chronicles the impending second marriage of a young Muncie couple. I just received the highest recommendation possible from C. Mason Wells, who knows my tastes incredibly well. He’s never pointed me in the direction of anything this loudly before. Go here for details on tonight’s event and here for more information on the Middletown project. Then see it and make me quintuply jealous if I can’t make it over there in time.
