So, last night, while rewatching "Krush Groove" in order to take notes (don't ask), I discovered something truly life-altering. Midway through the film, there is a fight in a club scene. Standing in the background are some of the most ridiculously clad extras in the history of cinema. In the righthand corner, one incredibly shrunken dude with a massive jheri curl stood out. Jokingly, I said to my roommate, "Check out Chris Rock in the background." And then I got a funny feeling in my tummy. I rewound and paused on the extra in question. Sure enough, it's Chris fucking Rock! Everybody's gotta start somewhere, I suppose. But in all seriousness, while I've always been a huge fan of anything Chris Rock has ever done (with the exception of "Head of State" obviously), the realization that he was an extra in "Krush Groove" has made me love the man even more.

Also, the sight of Rick Rubin wearing a Husker Du t-shirt in the DJ booth as the Fat Boys, Sheila E., Kurtis Blow, and Run-DMC perform the film's title track is worth the price of admission alone.

What a strange and beautiful world this is.
