MASCULINE FEMININE is one of my favorite films of all-time. Like the best works of art, it is as emotionally and intellectually affecting as it is stylistically thrilling. It works on countless levels: as a time capsule providing a fascinating glimpse into 1960s Paris culture, as a treatise on the brash idealism of youth, as a defining moment in the French New Wave, or simply as a work of sheer entertainment. I don't know if the recent New York release is a one city deal, but if you happen to be near a city that's screening the new print of Godard's exhilarating achievement, you better go see it. And if you're currently in New York, you have no excuse. You won't be disappointed.
