Oldboy (and other things)

Oldboy (and other things)

I saw "Oldboy" last night. Needless to say, the world is a different place now. I have to say, with the exception of a dragged out finale, I thought it was a phenomenal achievement. It was the movie that I wish "Fight Club" had been (for those of you who don't know me, I fucking HATE "Fight Club"). It was stylish and violent and extreme, but it didn't take itself too seriously. It was actually funny, and not in a condescending, hateful way. The only humor to be found in Fincher's macho handjob of a movie was a moronically homophobic undercurrent that made me feel like I was back in the middle school locker room. Anyway, check out "Oldboy," but be careful out there...

Also, I feel the need to point the few remaining uninformed souls to my friends' website, www.homestarrunner.com. I watched them give a lecture/performance/something like that at NYU the other night, and they caused an actual sensation. It was amazing! What started as an inside joke between Craig Zobel and Mike Chapman back in the late 1990s has turned into a truly beautiful success story. Matt Chapman is a genius with voices. Go visit their site and put a smile on your face (and buy lots of crazy-cool merchandise!).

Lastly, I saw how the other half lives last night, crashing in a friend's swank midtown hotel room while he shoots a star-studded motion picture. Why didn't I become an actor??? Well, I know why I didn't become an actor, but still... why didn't I become an actor???

Try not to die this weekend...
