Platinum Jews

Okay, that makes two subject headings in a row that are D-minus at best. I'll try to do better tomorrow.

I am unbelievably glad that I drove back to MD in time to catch tonight's show at the Ottobar. It was downright outstanding! They played almost everything I would have wanted (except for "Send in the Clouds," "Pretty Eyes," and one or two more), and they sounded fucking FANTASTIC. I really think it's a blessing that it took so long for DC Berman to conquer his on-stage demons, for I seriously doubt prior incarnations of the touring Jews would have sounded so great. This is a fully accomplished, full-fledged rock-and-roll band!

Berman had some serious contact lense issues, but that somehow only added to the magic. Buck was shocked to learn that he doesn't even drink anymore, because he was convinced he was plastered.

All in all, a very inspiring night. I would be shocked if this touring experience doesn't turn the band into an annually touring entity. You could tell that he was loving every minute of it, in his typically tortured way. But though he might tell you differently, he's loving it, I know he is.

Thanks to Bob N. for hooking a brother up. I owe you one...
