Spirit Awards: The Sean Baker Dilemma

Poor Sean Baker. Nominated twice in the same category—the John Cassavetes Award (for Best Feature Under $500,000)—at this year's Spirit Awards. But in all seriousness, this does create a legitimate dilemma. It's hard to push too strongly for one film when there's another one of yours sitting right beside it, and when you consider that those films—Take Out and Prince of Broadway—are two of the most exceptional works of low-budget American social realism we have seen in quite some time, it becomes even more complicated. For all you voters out there, if you haven't seen either Take Out or Prince of Broadway, I urge you not to vote until you have watched them both. If you can't figure out how to make that happen, get in touch with Sean himself and I'm sure he'll do whatever he can to make that happen.
