Parents, teachers, drug dealers, hermaphrodites, hot dog vendors, US Open referees, lock your doors and hide your children, because Joe Swanberg has just swept into town.
Okay, that was stupid, but I'm sticking with it because I left my shame on the F train last Thursday night and it hasn't come home yet.
In all seriousness, Chicago's king of undie cinema, Joe Swanberg, has arrived in New York City for the theatrical release of his most recent feature, LOL (www.lolthemovie.com). The film opened tonight at the Pioneer Theatre, but it will be screening several times over the course of the next ten days. I don't know if he's going to be at all the screenings for Q&A's, but chances are good that he will be. Here are the dates and times:
Thurs Aug 24 9pm
Fri Aug 25 9pm
Sat Aug 26 9pm
Sun Aug 27 9pm
Mon Aug 28 9pm
Tues Aug 29 9pm
Fri Sept 1 9pm
Sat Sept 2 9pm
Sun Sept 3 9pm
Yes, I realize that Matt Dentler just posted an update with this very same information, but a little redundancy never hurt a no-budget film that needed some valuable publicity. This is independent cinema, remember. No egos. I'm not mad at Dentler for sucking some of the fresh gleam off this post and beating me to the punch. I'm giving him a hearty "hell yeah!" for showing Senor Swanberg some much-deserved attention.
But I digress. Painfully so.
Okay, I'm back. For those of you who don't know, Joe has also garnered some major attention with his provocative made-for-internet series, YOUNG AMERICAN BODIES, at Nerve. Watch it here:
Or attend the one-time-only screening of all the episodes at the Pioneer Theatre on 6:30 this Saturday evening, where the cast is going to be in attendance. (I do hope that Mr. Swanberg will keep the ejaculate in his pants, however.)
I'll be there at some point, just not sure exactly when. If I see you there, I guess I'll see you there...
