Thursday Mega-Mix

One... More... Day...

As the hours inch forward, I am becoming more and more convinced that tomorrow night's latest Film Nerd Excursion is going to be a bigger letdown than Beowulf. Only time will tell. Thankfully, that time has just about come.

If you haven't already, please read David Lowery's stunningly beautiful review of Silent Light over at Hammer to Nail.

If you're in New York City, make sure to attend tonight's Rooftop Films event in Williamsburg. Not only is O'Death playing, but Glory at Sea is screening as well. Let us never forget how strongly I feel about this miraculous, special film!

In music news, thanks to my awesome indie rock dealer Ruben James, I have just gotten my hands on the new Deerhunter record, Microcastle, and all I can say is HOLY MOTHERFUCKER!!! A full confession, I never wanted to pay attention to this band. Nothing personal, I just thought they were Atlanta sludgecore, or atonal noisemongers. But this record feels like a timeless, instant pop classic. I don't think there's a release date scheduled yet, but go to the band's MySpace page to listen to two tracks. Seriously, press play on "Nothing Ever Happened," turn up the volume, and listen to it all the way through. If you aren't wowed, then I guess our sonic taste buds belong on the other side of the cafeteria.
