There is Life Beyond The Cinema...
... even though I sometimes forget it. I haven't blogged about the many other things going on in my life right now, and I'm sure most of you don't care... But for the interested, here are the non-film items that are capturing my interest at the moment. Enjoy! 1. The University of Michigan Football Team We're 2-2. We lost to Notre Dame and Wisconsin (Wisconsin!). We have a lot to prove this weekend and who do we play? Only the 11th-ranked Michigan State Spartans! Michigan is out of the Top 25 for the first time in eight years (grrrr), and Michigan St. is 4-0 and rolling. We need this win badly. This is Michigan, the winningest program in college football history! Let's go get it done.
2. Liverpool FC We just played Chelsea to a 0-0 Champions League draw on Wednesday, and now we get to host the Russian mafia's favorite sons for the second time in 5 days on Sunday. This time, we need a win and honestly, Chelsea really need a loss. I'd be happy to have Liverpool be the side that hands it to them. This game is going to be quality.
Really enjoying her new novel. Not done yet, but it's been a while since I've enjoyed reading fiction this much. 4. Poor Theater by The Wooster Group Saw this show last weekend, and it is really a lot of fun. I love the way this group operates; they deconstruct everything in such a playfull yet meaningful way. In all honesty, I take the opposite opinion of Ben Brantley in the NY Times; I loved Ari Fliakos' 'Interpreter' and his performance in Polish. Just the energy on display, the creative use of multimedia, and the fact that the group are so cinematic; they draw me in every time. I know I'm REALLY late to the party, but after HOUSE/LIGHTS and now Poor Theater, consider me hooked on The Wooster Group.
5. Prague and The Perfect Medium at the Metropolitan Museum of Art There are two shows at the Met I am dying to see. The first is Prague, which looks beautfiful and strangely modern. And then there is The Perfect Medium, which looks like it was designed just for me. I haven't bought a catalogue at an art show in ages, but this one might get me back on track. Full report after I visit.
6. Bob Mould Band, Live at Irving Plaza, October 5th, 2005.
