R.I.P. Alex Chilton

Children by the millions are mourning the loss of the great Alex Chilton. I’m tired of death framing my life’s experience, but every time another one of my heroes dies, everything comes into sharp relief. He will be missed and his legacy of greatness will carry on. Still, another terrible loss of a great musician, another man gone way too soon.

 

Swamped

I have never been so busy in my entire life. As we wind up the final days of programming the 2010 Sarasota Film Festival, the details mount, the plans coalesce and everything gets more and more complicated. It’s going to be good, but there is no time to eat, sleep or breathe at this point—writing here has become an unobtainable luxury. I will be back as soon as there is air. In the meantime, a cinematic moment to which I relate more and more deeply every single day…
