I have been taking a break from the blog these past couple of weeks and am heading out for a two-week hopefully internet free vacation with the family (much needed), but as a parting salvo, I wanted to point you in the direction of my review of Todd Solondz's elegaic Life During Wartime, which is now up over at Hammer To Nail. I hope you'll take the time to go see the film for yourself and engage with one of the important voices in American independent cinema; Todd Solondz will be doing Q&A's tonight (with Ally Sheedy) and tomorrow (with the super nice Rich Pecci) at the IFC Center, so hurry on over and hear the filmmaker discuss his work.
I, on the other hand, just received my bulk order of 50% off Criterion Blu-Ray discs from Barnes & Noble and plan on taking them in over the course of August. I scored Last Year At Marienbad, The Red Shoes, Vivre Sa Vie (my favorite Godard), The 400 Blows, The Leopard and Playtime; should be a fun month of taking some favorites in pristine Blu-ray awesomeness. Now, if they'd only bring Bresson to Blu-ray... *swoon*
Ciao for now. Back in time to preview the impending trip to the Toronto International Film Festival and maybe a little Premiership in the meantime. Also, I am dying to see Carlos, which I imagine I will see at the New York Film Festival, so I hope to blather on about that a little bit as well. Ok. Bye-bye for now...
