Nicole Kidman Hits Cannes With Two Films

I continue to be impressed with Nicole Kidman because the woman does not take the easy road in terms of her parts.  She arrived in Cannes with two very different films -- Lee Daniels' The Paperboy where she plays a character reminiscent of her character in To Die For, and Hemingway and Gellhorn in which she plays reporter Martha Gellhorn.

Gender Watch: The Firing of Community's Dan Harmon

I have been watching with interest all week the press regarding the firing of Dan Harmon the creator and showrunner of Community after three seasons.  The whole incident would have passed without a big blip if Dan Harmon hadn't taken to his blog with a screed directed at the studio Sony, and the network NBC.  It's become such a story that the studio had to create talking points for the cast to help them deal with all the questions.

A Look at Prometheus

I am as intrigued as the next person about Prometheus.  Ridley Scott of Alien and Thelma and Louise back directing sci-fi written by one of the dudes that created Lost.  And Noomi Rapace - the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo as the lead.  Sounds great.  And yes folks, she is the lead.  This woman has propelled herself into the big time from Swedish thriller to co-star in Sherlock Holmes to the lead in one of the most mysterious and anticipated movies of the summer.

Cross Post: Women Writing Pilots – Nice Work if You Can Get It

Last week the networks announced the pilots they are picking up to series from among the ninety or so that were produced this year for ABC, CBS, CW, FOX and NBC. Certainly the relative success that CBS had with its schedule and the more limited slots FOX has available influenced their rationale for picking up fewer pilots to production than ABC and NBC. This year, the CW ordered 8 pilots, up from 6 in years past, an increase of 33%.
