TV: Why You Should Watch Nashville

'Nashville' is a remarkably sophisticated exploration of how women are processed into the entertainment-industrial complex, and what happens to them when they try to carve out independent identities within it.

Hollywood Women Stand With the Women of Texas

Since Wendy Davis' epic 13 hour filibuster last week, female celebrities like Lena Dunham and others tweeted their support for the Texas Senator. Yesterday, a rally was held that coincided with the beginning of another special session trying to get SB5 (the bill that Davis filibustered) passed which Gov. Rick Perry claims will happen.

Connie Britton on Hollywood, Nashville and Aging

If you are a regular reader of Women and Hollywood, you know that we are big fans of Connie Britton here. We love her as Rayna James in Callie Khouri’s Nashville and Tami Taylor is one of our all-time favorite female TV characters.

Academy Award Winning Writer Callie Khouri Slams Movies About Women As Relegated to Trash Heap

Callie Khouri gave the movie business a lot of years of her life.  It's been an up and down relationship.  The up - winning an Academy Award for writing Thelma and Louise.  The down - wanting to direct and getting pigeon holed into the chick flick box because she had made a movie about women.

Must Watch: Nashville-Created by Callie Khouri

For me Connie Britton can do no wrong.  She was phenomenal as one of my all-time favorite TV characters, Tami Taylor in Friday Night Lights, and on top of that she’s an outspoken advocate for women’s health.  Now she is paired with Oscar-winning writer of Thelma & Louise, Callie Khouri and the equally great Hayden Panettiere in my new favorite show of the fall, Nashville which premieres tonight on ABC.  We here at Women and Hollywood are thrilled that she is now front and center of this new show.

Guest Post: 2012-2013 Fall TV Created by Women

Fall TV season has arrived. As we excitedly dive into a fresh season, what is the state of female participation in creative content? I gathered a list of new shows and looked at their creative teams, noting the number of women that serve as show creators, writers, directors, or producers. And gosh, the results were depressing.
