Spain's Oscar submission, Blancanieves, is a revisioning of the classic fairy tale Snow White. This iteration set in 1920's Spain, centers around a young female bullfighter, Carmen (Macarena García) and her evil stepmother, Encarna (Y Tu Mama Tambíen's Maribel Verdú). Knowing she's in danger, Carmen escapes with a group of traveling bullfighting dwarves and becomes a known bullfighter under the name Blancanieves.
