Melissa Silverstein is the founder and editor of Women and Hollywood, one of the most respected sites for issues related to women and film as well as other areas of pop culture. Women and Hollywood educates, advocates, and agitates for gender parity across the entertainment industry.

She is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Athena Film Festival. The 5th annual festival will take place from February 5-8, 2015 at Barnard College in NYC.

Melissa recently published the first book from Women and Hollywood, In Her Voice: Women Directors Talk Directing, which is a compilation of over 40 interviews that have appeared on the site.

Rosario Dawson Gives Some Real Talk on the Reality for Actresses

In a recent interview, Rosario Dawson gave some honest talk about the disturbing reality of being an actress in Hollywood. She says she's come to meetings with producers with them looking at pictures of actresses on websites for so-called inspiration. However, if those pictures aren't inspiring enough, Dawson says that an actress might not get hired.

Hollywood Feminist of the Day: Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren co-hosted the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo over the weekend with Rosario Dawson. The concert honored Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee of Liberia and Tawakkul Karman of Yemen for their work integrating women into the peace building movement.
