Barbra Streisand will be receiving Glamour magazine's 2013 Woman of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award during the 23rd annual Women of the Year Awards on November 11th in New York.
The legendary singer and actress more than deserves the award for her decades spanning career which has given audiences memorable turns in Funny Girl, Yentl and The Way We Were. Streisand has racked up the awards in her career including two Oscars, five Emmys and eight Grammys which is just the tip of the iceberg of her achievements.
Streisand did an interview for the December issue of the magazine and discussed her career. As a young woman, she always wanted to be an actress even though her mother told her to just be a secretary. For Streisand, she believes she saw it as an escape. "Looking back I think it was maybe an escape. I just had a belief in myself."
She also gave the magazine some pretty good advice for success which you will find below.
1. Find your passion.
2. Trust your instincts.
3. Stay true to yourself -- people respond to authenticity, and they can smell a phony.
4. Don't fear your self-doubt. ... Confidence and doubt are at two ends of the scale, and you need both.
5. Take risks. ... Get involved. It's your life. It's your country. It's your world.
