Next week when I head to London one of the things I am going to do is try and find a copy of the 3rd season of Borgen.  It's already played in Europe and I must find it.  That's how much I am into this show.  I can't wait.  If you are behind and haven't seen season 1 it is being streamed out of KCET.

For the uninitiated, Borgen tells the story of the first Danish female Prime Minister. It's compelling, interesting, real and a times brutal regarding the toll politics takes on family life.  Here's what I wrote at the start of the second season.

Season 2 will be released on DVD here in the US today by MHz networks and we are going to giveaway 2 copies to Women and Hollywood readers.  To win your copy all you need to do is write in the comments below why you like the show.  Best answer wins.  (Make sure to leave a real contact email when you comment so I can get in touch with you.)

Seriously, this is a terrific series, with a strong female lead, as good as anything I've seen on TV.  If you can't find something good at the movies and you needed another reason to stay home, this is it.

I had been reading snippets about Borgen for the past year or so. (Stephen King even called it his favorite show!!) I couldn't find it online or on TV, though. :( I was so excited when Linktv started carrying it and it is even better than the hype! It's so fascinating to compare another country's politics to ours. My daughter, a political science major, has a whole group of fellow political junkies that join her to watch it! GO BIRGITTE NYBORG!

This is one of the best shows I've ever seen. The female lead is outstanding, as are all the characters. It's such a strong portrait of a strong woman and how power shapes her, and how she deals with its lure. I wish season 3 would show here in the US. It seems like we've been waiting forever!

I am so glad I can finally watch this show, and I'm partway through the first season as it's shown on the linktv website. I am a political nerd, so I like seeing the intricacies of the political process play out. I also think it is a fascinating portrayal of how women navigate power and gender expectations, from Birgitte and her seemingly (so far) strong egalitarian marriage and Katrine in her rise at TV1. I started watching The West Wing recently and have heard that Bartlett is supposed to be a liberal's fantasy president, but I am so much more intrigued and inspired at the idea of having someone like Birgitte Nyborg in power!

I love Borgen because in addition to being superbly acted, it is a realistic, unsentimental, "un-Hollywood" portrayal of ambition and how it relates to one's principles and personal /family life (not just for Birgitte, but also for Kasper, Katrine, Amir and to a certain extent all other characters).
